Trainee Instructor Profiles

At Sunshine Coast Karate all trainee instructors are undertaking our Jun-Shidoin trianing program. Jun-Shidoin (Assistant Instructor) is the first teaching level in Chito-Ryu which may be attained a minimum of 12 months after attaining black belt. The pupose of this training training program help equip the next generation of instructors with practical teaching experience along with the theory behind it, whilst developing a deeper understanding of his basics of Chito-Ryu Karate-do.

SENPAI RHYS WOODHOUSE has been studying Chito-Ryu Karate since 2001 and holds the rank of Jr Shodan (Jr 1st Degree Black Belt). Rhys is currently doing a school based traineeship, Cert II in Sports (Coaching), specialising in Martial Arts, whilst completing his High School education at Nambour High School.

Rhys has competed and continues to compete in Chito-Ryu. He has also represented Australia at the International Chito-Ryu Karate Championship known as the Soke Cup in 2004 & 2007. Rhys' best result at Soke Cup was 3rd Place in Boys 16-17 Yrs Kata in Norway, 2007.

In May 2007, Rhys graded to Jr Shodan to become one of the first home grown black belts in Chito-Ryu on the Sunshine Coast. As a senior member of the dojo Rhys is a trainee instructor, and currently assists in teaching the beginner and intermediate children's classes whilst he works towards becoming an internationally registered instructor in the ICKF.

SENPAI MATTHEW STEVENSON has been studying Chito-Ryu Karate since 2000 and holds the rank Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt). In May 2007, Matthew graded to Shodan to become one of the first home grown black belts in Chito-Ryu on the Sunshine Coast.

Matthew has competed and continues to compete in Chito-Ryu. He has also represented Australia at the International Chito-Ryu Karate Championship known as the Soke Cup in 2004. Matthews' best result at Soke Cup was 2nd Mens 3-1 Kyu Kata in Australia, 2004.

Sam has competed and continues to compete in Chito-Ryu. He has also represented Australia at the International Chito-Ryu Karate Championship known as the Soke Cup in 2004. Sams' best result at Soke Cup was 1st Place in Boys 16-17 Yrs Kata and 2nd in Boys 16-17 Yrs Kumite in Australia, 2004.
